Enheduana: The First Non-Anonymous Author

Enheduana was born approximately 4,300 years ago as the daughter of King Sargon of Akkad and the sister of the twins Rimush and Manishtusu. Thanks to her father's high position, she was soon appointed a high priestess. Her high social level also allowed her to learn to read and write. For her job as a high priestess, Enheduana had to move to the city of Ur to be closer to the moon god. There she spent the next 25 years. While being a high priestess, Enheduana wrote poems which became very popular and were later even performed as plays. After her father's death, Rimush took over. Unfortunately he was killed and so Manishtusu took hold of the throne. Frankly enough, he was killed too. After that Enheduana nephew got to the throne. He was too blind to appreciate Enheduana's work and so he kicked her out and made his daughter the highest priestess instead.

A ziggurat similar to the one that Enheduana lived in.
